Plus GTA Banned in Thailand?

Posted at 10:32 am

For the dearly devoted, it’s all about location, location, location.

Music fans have Coachella in Indio.

Film buffs have the Sundance Film Festival all over Utah.

Comic book aficionados have Comic-Con in San Diego.

And here in Seattle, we gamers have PAX.

PAX, the Penny Arcade Expo, has been described as “the Woodstock of video gaming,” a sentiment that I find rings true. PAX is, in my opinion, where gamers go to find the highest representation of our love for the medium.

The gaming festival celebrates all facets of the culture; video games, tabletop games, and console games. For us, this is the mothership. For us, this is home.

If you game, I encourage you to go. Words cannot describe the awesome.

This year plans to be just as amazing as the 2007 conference. This year’s keynote will be given by Ken Levine, the disturbed genius behind Bioshock. I have vowed to myself not to scream and cry like a hysteric but… I cannot make that promise realistically.

I’ll be there – hope to see you there too.

This video is from PAX 07 with Jonathon Coulton singing “Re: Your Brains.” A song of corporate zombie survival which is about as funny as it sounds. People were singing along, using their DS’s instead of lighters, perhaps the most truly epic moment of the convention in an convention that was full of them.

Thailand Killing Prompts Ban of Grand Theft Auto

In other news… Polwat Chinno, 19-year-old man killed a cabbie in Thailand after playing Grand Theft Auto. Hence the game has garnered the ire of the government.

The banning of the game prohibits GTA from being sold or played in Thailand. Shopkeepers found selling GTA can be fined up to 6,000 baht – or $180.
