The vote was 3-0 with councilmen Brian Sullivan and Dave Gossett absent. The contribution is expected to allow supporters of Heybrook Ridge to buy the 130-acre parcel for $1.21 million. They already have raised about $550,000, including $500,000 from an anonymous donor. W.B. Foresters, which owns the parcel, has agreed to sell the land at fair market value, according to Debbie Buse, the company's business manager. In 2006, the Stanwood company announced its plan to log the ridge just south of Index off U.S. 2 in the Skykomish River Valley. The proposal met strong opposition from Index residents who feared logging would ruin the area's scenic views and lower their property values. Snohomish Final AM radio tower erected in valley Crews finished building a 349-foot-tall radio tower in the Snohomish River valley last week, said Andy Skotdal, whose family owns KRKO-AM 1380. Three other shorter towers that stand 198 feet were built Wednesday, July 16 in the valley despite the strong opposition from area residents. The four towers should increase KRKO's broadcasting power from 5,000 watts to 34,000 watts during the day and to 50,000 watts at night, Skotdal said. With the new towers, the station will be able to reach listeners all the way from Tacoma to Mount Vernon during the day.
