The last date of the tour will feature one garden. A calendar item in Home & Garden incorrectly listed the number of gardens available to tour on this date. This garden, just off U.S. 2 in Sultan, features a variety of plants with a cottage garden feel. The homeowner calls it a "calico garden." Visiting hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tour brochures, which serve as tickets, are available for a small donation and can be picked up from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Friday at McCollum Park, 600 128th St. SE, Everett. Call 425-338-2400 for more details. The organizers of the master gardener tours planned this event to coincide with the Fronderosa Frolic in Gold Bar on Saturday. Dig this: A Plant Exchange InGround Planter System is a "sleeve" which you bury to make a permanent location for your plants. You pot your plant in the controlled-watering planter and drop it into the sleeve. When the season changes, simply slip the planter out of the sleeve, swap the plant, and put it back in. You never need to dig a new hole, and can easily move plants indoors in the event of an early (or late) frost. Sounds like a great idea for those who have a hard time bending and for planting in spots that are difficult to access.
