Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2 is, without a doubt, one of the most fun and addictive games to grace the Xbox 360. This sleek, bright, stylish shooter is an improvement on the original in all the right ways, except there's no online multiplayer. Yet that could be considered nit-picking. Especially with a game that has so much more to offer than its predecessor. For a "casual" game, Geometry Wars 2 isn't casual at all in its presentation. Graphically it is reminiscent of Asteroids or any of the late-'80s shooters, yet it still captures the excitement you felt the first time you whacked the button on your Atari stick to dispatch a menacing space rock. I literally had to remind myself to breathe, and when I did I noticed the death-grip I had on my poor controller. Geometry Wars 2, only available through Xbox Live Arcade for download, includes five new play modes and a cooperative play mode that includes a co-pilot. Perhaps the most interesting addition is that the "geoms," drops from enemies after you blast them into oblivion, now stack and remain even after you die in-game. Xbox Live players should download this game as soon as humanly possible. This is a unique game with incredible polish and replay value for only a measly 800 Microsoft Points, roughly $10.
