FYI

100th birthday party planned

Rachel Setchfield will celebrate her 100th birthday Sunday.

Friends and family will celebrate at 2 p.m. at Richmond Beach Rehab, 19235 15th Ave. NW in Shoreline.

Her friend, Laura Hall, the former mayor of Edmonds, said Setchfield was prominent in gardening circles in Edmonds. A longtime member of the Floretum Garden Club, she spearheaded the hanging flower basket program for Edmonds.

For many years, Setchfield furnished the flowers and greens for decorations at the Edmonds Arts Festival and other functions.

Until this year, Hall said, her friend lived alone in her home where a bouquet was artistically displayed on her kitchen table. Now in a care facility, she works crossword puzzles daily (sometimes without glasses) and plays a mean game of gin rummy.
