Residents of a Stanwood-area water system can drink the water again.
A boil water advisory for the Vista Glen Water System, first issued on July 28, has been lifted, the state Department of Health announced Monday.
The water system serves 21 households near Kayak Point south of Stanwood. The boil water advisory was issued after tests showed the presence of E. coli, a bacterium that can make people seriously ill.
The water system is operated by Iliad, Inc. The company was required to disinfect the system, flush it and repeatedly test the water for bacteria until test showed the water was safe to drink, state health officials said.
The company called each household over the weekend to tell them that the water is safe to drink.
