One of the great garden clubs of the area, the Arlington Garden Club, is offering a series of Turn Your Thumb Green workshops starting this fall. All are open to the public.

The workshops are free to club members and $3 each for everybody else. They’re held 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., the second Saturday of the month at the Arlington Boys and Girls Club, 18513 59th Ave. NE, Arlington.

    Here’s the schedule:
Sept. 13: Hypertufa, instructor Sheryl Verral will teach how to make garden objects using Hypertufa methods.

Oct. 11: Patrick Carey of Hadj Designs will speak on green roofs. Carey trains builders, landscape architects as well other building professionals on the subject of green roofs.

Nov. 8: Bill Blake, from the City of Arlington, will discuss why the city has a storm water tax, plus what homeowners can do for storm water runoff.

Dec. 13: Arlington Garden Club members will teach members and residents how to make their own holiday wreaths.

Jan. 10: Michelle Clark, Certified Horticulturist, a popular speaker in Pacific Northwest gardening circles, plans to lecture on winter gardening and getting a jump on spring.

Feb. 14: Club members Carol & Leroy Jacques will provide pictures and commentary on their trip to gardens in Italy.

March 14: Master Gardner Wink Cushman will discuss ornamental grasses for your garden.

April 11: This workshop is usually held in conjunction with Arlington’s Arbor Day. More information posted later, the club said.

May 9: This will be a special presentation which will have the Arlington Garden Club hosting neighboring garden clubs. The speaker will be Marianne Binetti. The club may hold the event in a different location since Binetti is a popular speaker. So check with the club before attending this one.
