Rutz wins Outlaws tuneup at Skagit Speedway

ALGER, Wash. -- Travis Rutz and the Rudeen Racing team are heating up as the race season winds to a close at Skagit Speedway.

Following his 360 Nationals win, Rutz took the lead from the pole position after a six-car invert and was unchallenged for the 25 laps of the yourgreengoods.com Outlaw 410 Sprint main Saturday, Aug. 23 at Skagit Speedway on Banner Bank/Angel of the Winds Casino night.

"I have to thank my crew...these guys are the best," Rutz said. "I always believed in defending your home turf, so when they (the World of Outlaws) come to town next week, I think we have something for them."

Brock Lemley was second in the Jansma Construction No. 4 and Barry Martinez rounded out the top three in the Artisan Homes No. 66.

Jesse Whitney set the quick time in the Twin City Collision No. 88 with a lap of 11.732 seconds. Heat race wins went to Eric Fisher in the JNR Paving No. 59 and Lemley.

Alan Munn and Jason Bloodgood battled back and forth race for the lead in the Budweiser 360 Sprints, with Munn coming out on top.

Munn started on the outside of the front row and beat Bloodgood into the first corner. For the rest of the main, it was Munn on the cushion with Bloodgood hooking up to the bottom of the track. Back and forth it went with the two drivers trading the lead until Munn crossed under the flagstand first in his Munn Construction No. 42.

Bloodgood was second in the Industrial Supply No. 38 andShane Broers in the Firedown Graphics No. 11 was third. Fast Time was Brian Kirkpatrick in his Jet City Equipment No. 5k at 12.169. Heat wins went to Bloodgood and Broers.

After a nearly 18 month layoff, Lyle Woods returned to victory lane at Skagit Speedway. Driving the Jet City Equipment No. 12k, Woods took the lead from Kyle Oman on lap 8 then held on to the end of the 20-lap Cook Road Shell Sportsman Sprint main event.

Oman finished second in theLouis Auto Glass No. 6 and points leader Kelsey Carpenter was third in the Action Cleaning No. 79k. Heat race wins went to Devin Madonia in the Snohomish Roofing No 42 and Carpenter.

Travis Meins took a taxi cab to victory in the Wilson Auto Brokers Outlaw Hornets. Driving a New York City taxi-themed car. Meins' GTS teammates Ben Gunderson and Freddy Vela finished second and third. Heat race wins went to Eric Vicker and Karl Dahl.

The Greatest Show on Dirt -- The World of Outlaws -- hits Skagit Speedway for a two-day show starting Friday, Aug. 29. Tickets are available by calling 360-724-3567. The best in 410 Sprint Car racing will be shooting for $25,000 to win on Saturday night, with legendary names like Donny Schatz, Joey Saldana, Steve Kinser plus local favorites Martinez, Heath and Rutz.
