From an iPhone image to worldwide fame

Posted at 2:56 pm by Eric Fetters

One of the great things about a globally wired world is the fact that virtually ANYONE can gain fleeting moments of fame after their story or image is sent around the world at the speed of light and then repeated, blogged about and forwarded again and again.

Which brings us to "iPhone girl." I haven't seen her name mentioned, and it hardly matters. But her face has popped up all over the Webosphere in recent days. MacRumors had this story, and the photo, first, but it's spread all over since then.

It all began when the British owner of a brand-new iPhone found photos on his phone that seem to have been taken in the Chinese factory.

The rare look inside the production line spread across the active network of Apple-centric blogs and even made newspaper headlines. As of today, "iPhone girl" had several hundred mentions on Google.

In a few weeks, she probably will be forgotten, but that's part of the fun of these fleeting Web celebrities.
