A few quick Thursday notes

Posted at 3:49 pm by John Boyle

. . . as the title says, here's a quick wrap up of today's briefing with Tyrone Willingham (no players or assistant coaches meet with the media on Thursdays).

The biggest news is that tight end Michael Gottlieb won't make the trip while still recovering from a hamstring injury.

Walt Winter and Kavario Middleton figure to get most of the time at TE with Gottlieb out, but redshirt freshman Chris Izbicki could also figure into the equation.

Safety Jason Wells will also miss this trip. Wells, a starter last year, tore his ACL against USC and is still not 100 percent back from that surgery.

Asked if any walk-ons have earned scholarships this fall, Willingham said LB Josh Gage and OL Nick Scott both have. Gage, who is expected to start Saturday, was on scholarship last season, and it was expected that he would again this year.
