State health care program for kids featured at AquaSox event tonight

EVERETT – There are approximately 75,000 children in Washington State who have no health insurance, 5,000 of which are believed to live in Snohomish County.

Today, parents of those children have an opportunity to find some help.

“The biggest problem with uninsured children is that they miss out on regular contact with a physician, from receiving all the preventative care that helps kids grow up,” DSHS spokesman Jim Stevenson said. “That’s why the Apple Health Bus is coming to Everett, to help parents make informed choices for their children.”

The Apple Health Bus is touring the state, educating parents on the new initiative to enroll uninsured children in state-sponsored health coverage.

The Apple Health Bus will be at the Everett Memorial Stadium from 4 to 9 p.m. during the Everett Aquasox game, handing out information and helping parents find out if they qualify for support.

Parents who wish to apply for Apple Health must bring payroll stubs or other proof of income.

“So many parents think that they are not eligible when a great many of them can qualify,” Stevenson said. “Once they have established income and sign up their child can be in a doctor’s office in a matter of days. It is that simple.”
