What's closed for Labor Day

Here are some scheduled closures and changes for Labor Day:

Government: Federal, state and local offices are closed.

Schools: Closed.

Post offices: Closed, although Express Mail service continues.

Commerce: Many businesses and most banks are closed. Everett and Alderwood malls are open.

Transportation: Community Transit and Everett Transit are on Sunday schedules. For state ferry information, go to www.wsdot.wa.gov/ferries or call 888-808-7977.

The Herald: The delivery deadline is 7:30 a.m. Classified advertising and the front lobby are closed. Customer service for home delivery is open from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Event remembers murder victims

A breakfast sponsored by the Families and Friends of Violent Crime Victims is scheduled for 7 to 8:30 a.m. Sept. 25 at the Everett Events Center.

Table captains and other volunteers, are needed for the event.

The date marks the National Day of Remembrance for Murder Victims.

Admission to this event is free. Anyone interested in attending must send an RSVP to Everett Events Center, 2000 Hewitt Ave., Everett. For more information, call 800-346-7555.

Arts council helps promote gardening

The Arlington Arts Council's Art at The Plant Farm runs from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sept. 13 and 14.

The fine art show includes a variety of art by the members of three north Snohomish County guilds: the AAC, Stanwood Camano Art Guild and the Greater Marysville Art Guild. There will be live music, plants, espresso, kettle corn and grounds for the public to stroll.

The event is at The Plant Farm at Smokey Point, 15022 Twin Lakes Ave., Marysville.

Sno-Isle Tech marks 30 years

The Sno-Isle Tech Skills Center will celebrate its 30th anniversary on the same day it holds a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a new building.

The event is set for 12:30 p.m. Sept. 20 at the campus, 9001 Airport Road.

The center, which serves 14 school districts, teaches a variety of work skills, such as fashion and merchandising, criminal justice, firefighting and welding.
