Fogerson on his move to safety

Posted at 1:08 pm by John Boyle

Johri Fogerson just talked to reporters to discuss his move from tailback to safety.

Fogerson said he found out about the move yesterday afternoon when Tyrone Willingham called him into his office.

"He said, ‘We want you to play safety,’ so I made the move," said Fogerson a freshman from Seattle's O'Dea High School who was the Associated Press state player of the year as senior. "I’m excited. I really don’t have a preference, so now I’m just getting another chance to play. Either way I was going to get a chance to play this week it seemed like, so I’m excited."

Fogerson said he thinks he could be on the field this week against BYU, and says he's learning the defense fast.

"I think I can," he said when asked if he'd be ready for a game. "I’m struggling right now a little bit learning the plays, but it’s coming fast, and hopefully this Saturday I do a great job."

The safety positions in Washington's defense are fairly interchangeable, but Fogerson he's been playing more free safety.
