Everett fire chief joins state board

EVERETT -- Everett Fire Chief Murray Gordon was recently elected to a two-year term with the Washington Fire Chiefs board of directors.

He was voted to the position with the 16-member board during the group's annual conference in Wenatchee in July.

"The current leadership of the Washington Fire Chiefs association is comprised of vibrant, energetic, dedicated and committed individuals," Gordon said. "I am privileged to have the opportunity to serve by and with them."

Gordon was hired by the Everett Fire Department in 1977 and has held several positions, including firefighter, paramedic, captain, deputy chief of emergency medical services and assistant chief. He was appointed Everett fire chief in January 2001.

He oversees a department that has 143 full-time positions and an annual budget of more than $17.5 million.

Gordon also serves as president of the Snohomish County Fire Chief's Association. He previously was chairman of the SNOPAC dispatch center's board of directors.

Gordon attended Everett Community College and received his paramedic training at the University of Washington. He also gained extensive training at the National Fire Academy, a Federal Emergency Management Agency-run program in Emmitsburg, Md.

Gordon lives in Mukilteo with his wife and daughter. In his spare time, he is active with the Snohomish County Football Officials Association and referees high school and semi-pro football games.
