Silva scratched with bad back

Posted at 11:48 am by By Kirby Arnold

Carlos Silva's chance to achieve victory No. 5 has been spoiled by a bad back. The beefy right-hander apparently tweaked his back during pregame work Saturday, either while shagging flies during batting practice or fielding balls during drills with the pitchers.

Bottom line is that he can't make today's start and manager Jim Riggleman has inserted left-hander Ryan Feierabend instead.

"We didn't know about it until this morning," Riggleman said. "Silva's back locked up, and we could have gone with a bullpen day, but the Yankees are still somewhat in contention."
