Suppliers feel the sting of Boeing strike

Posted at 8:27 am by Michelle Dunlop

Some Boeing suppliers already are bracing for what could be a long strike by the Machinists union.

Spirit AeroSystems says it will put workers on a reduced workweek schedule rather than laying them off. The Wichita-based company provides Boeing with a variety of parts – floor beams, metallic wing components and fuselage sections for every Boeing jet including the 787.

For more on Spirit, you can read its press release or this blog item.

Fuji Heavy Industries, a partner on Boeing’s 787, told Reuters that it would be impacted if the strike lasts very long.

“We do good business, especially for the 777. Right now we're waiting for information from Boeing, but if this lasts one, two weeks, it would have some impact," Fuji’s spokesman said.
