    Panther boys open tennis season winning

    Snohomish begins Wesco North dual-meet title defense with 6-1 victory over Cascade

    SNOHOMISH -- The Snohomish Panthers boys tennis team picked up where it left off in 2007, as the defending Wesco North dual-meet champions swept the doubles matches with a 6-1 win over Cascade in the opening meet for both schools.

    Three of the four singles matches went the full three sets, leaving Snohomish coach Dick Jansen impressed with the Bruins' play.

    "(Cascade) has a real nice club," Jansen said. "I was impressed with Cascade. They played very well."

    In the match Jansen thought was the best of the afternoon, Snohomish's Zach Stockwell came back from losing the second set to record a 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 victory over Cascades's Jon Pham.

    Johnny Mills was the lone victor for the Bruins, defeating Nichol Ratzke 7-5, 4-6, 6-4 at No. 4 singles.

    Girls soccer

    King's 5, Kingston 2: At Kingston, Kendall Thoreson had four assists in King's 5-2 non-league victory against Kingston. Hillary Zevenbergen and Julia Crosby both had a pair of goals and Hillary Quinn chipped one in as well. Christina McCormick contributed to the King's effort with an assist while on the other end of the field Madeleine McDevitt turned in an impressive effort at the net for King's. Meghan Antoni scored both of Kingston's goals.

    Archbishop Murphy 2, Holy Names 0: At Tukwila, Maddie Huggins scored off an assist from Sam Pettinger in the 72nd minute and Brittany Allen found the net with an assist from Caroline Brawner in the 76th minute as Archbishop Murphy opened its season with a non-league victory at the Starfire Sports and Entertainment Complex. Alexa Hughes recorded the shutout in goal for the Wildcats. Archbishop Murphy improved to 1-0 overall while Holy Names fell to 0-1.

    Granite Falls 2, Interlake 0: At Bellevue, Rose Livermore scored in the second minute and Brittany McGinnis added an insurance goal in the second half to lead Granite Falls to the non-league victory at Interlake High School. Katie Cashman assisted on Livermore's goal and Cacia Stevens had the assist on the goal by McGinnis. Kelsey Carlson recorded the shutout in goal for Granite Falls, which improved to 1-0 overall. Interlake is 0-1.
