Panther boys open tennis season winning

Snohomish begins Wesco North dual-meet title defense with 6-1 victory over Cascade

SNOHOMISH -- The Snohomish Panthers boys tennis team picked up where it left off in 2007, as the defending Wesco North dual-meet champions swept the doubles matches with a 6-1 win over Cascade in the opening meet for both schools.

Three of the four singles matches went the full three sets, leaving Snohomish coach Dick Jansen impressed with the Bruins' play.

"(Cascade) has a real nice club," Jansen said. "I was impressed with Cascade. They played very well."

In the match Jansen thought was the best of the afternoon, Snohomish's Zach Stockwell came back from losing the second set to record a 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 victory over Cascades's Jon Pham.

Johnny Mills was the lone victor for the Bruins, defeating Nichol Ratzke 7-5, 4-6, 6-4 at No. 4 singles.
