Tips acquire Bartek

Posted at 10:14 am by Nick Patterson

After a preseason full of players going out, Everett finally brought a player in Wednesday, trading for overage European forward Daniel Bartek. The Tips acquired the 20-year-old native of the Czech Republic in exchange for a fourth-round pick in the 2009 bantam draft.

Bartek, a 6-foot-2, 198-pounder now in his third season in the WHL, serves a double purpose, filling out Everett's third and final overage spot, while also filling one of the Tips' two Euro slots. Last season he had 22 goals and 14 assists in 54 games with the Wheat Kings, and also played for the Czechs at the World Junior Hockey Championships.

This one seemed like a natural from the start. Looking at the overage and European situations for all the teams, it was clear Brandon was going to move Bartek and Everett was one of the few locations that had openings for both an overager and a Euro. In addition, I recall Bartek being an absolute demon when Brandon visited Everett last season, so this move was just waiting to happen.

Everett now is back up to 24 players: 14 forwards, eight defensemen and two goaltenders.
