Arlington

Arts council sets weekend show

The Arlington Arts Council plans to offer a fine art show by the members of three north Snohomish County art guilds.

The show is set for 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at The Plant Farm at Smokey Point, 15022 Twin Lakes Ave., Marysville.

Camano Island

Tidal power topic of Camano presentation

Craig Collar of the Snohomish County Public Utility District plans to talk about tapping tidal energy while maintaining ecosystems at the next public education presentation sponsored by the Friends of Camano Island Parks.

The presentation is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Camano Island Multipurpose Center, 141 E. Camano Drive.

Collar, the PUD's manager for energy resource development, is set to explain how tidal energy could be integrated into the region's electrical grid.

Animal shelter group to sell auction tickets

Camano Animal Shelter Association volunteers plan to sell tickets to the organization's benefit auction, set for 6:30 p.m. Oct. 4 at the Camano Island Senior Center, 606 Arrowhead Road.

Tickets, $20 each, are scheduled to be available from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday outside the Stanwood QFC and Haggen stores. Tickets also are available at the animal shelter, 198 Can Ku Road, off E. Camano Drive on Camano Island.

The annual auction raises money for the nonprofit shelter and the event includes beverages, appetizers and dessert.

Granite Falls

Little League board meeting set for Monday

Granite Falls Little League is planning a board meeting for Monday.

The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Granite Falls Library, 815 E. Galena.

Elections will he held for vice president, secretary and player agent. The board also plans to go over the constitution and by-laws for 2009.



Marysville

Kids get a chance to explore big rigs

The city's annual opportunity for kids to get their hands on the big rigs, Touch a Truck, is planned for Saturday.

The event is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Totem Middle School's Asbery Field, 1605 Seventh St.

Touch a Truck lets children get into the driver's seat of Marysville's biggest heavy-duty rigs.

Kids can sit in the seats and honk the horns on public works trucks, fire trucks, police cars and other vehicles provided by sponsoring participants.

Stanwood

Senior center needs volunteers

Stanwood Community and Senior Center is looking for new volunteers.

Some volunteer jobs require a few hours, and others are monthly commitments of up to 15 hours.

Especially needed are special events coordinators, a speakers bureau coordinator, slide show creators, a funding development coordinator, and people with experience in marketing and public relations.

The center also needs people willing to teach classes on computers, cooking and the arts.
