Webcam shows construction work at Providence Regional Medical Center Everett

There's an easy way to keep up on the $600 million construction project now under way at Providence Regional Medical Center Everett.

A Web camera installed atop its cancer center across the street gives an overview of the site. This includes the hospital's new parking garage, demolition of its old parking structure and the deep hole that will be dug starting later this month for its 12-story medical tower.

Groundbreaking for the medical tower will be on Sept. 27, according to spokeswoman Cheri Russum.

The 680,000-square-foot structure is scheduled to open in 2011. It will have 368 patient rooms and an emergency room with space to treat up to 79 patients at a time.

The first step in the construction project, a 1,000-car parking garage, opened last month. Signs help direct the public to the entrance on 13th Street near Colby Avenue. It was designed with extra room to allow people to easily maneuver through the garage and find a parking space, said Gil Bodrak, a security manager for the hospital.

There are security cameras and emergency call boxes in the garage to summon help for anyone with emergency medical issues, he said.

There's an elevated, 300-foot walkway from the parking garage to the hospital. Patients also can be taken to the hospital on a shuttle, which operates Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Bodrak said.
