by Debra Smith Learning how to save seeds has been on my to-do list for awhile. Know how to save them and you can dispense with at least some of the seed buying. And it’s a valuable skill.
I saw a notice for a seed saving class 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 20. The class is geared toward gardeners and covers pollination, plant selection, curing, storing and germination testing. They’ll also cover how to run your own seed trails and the nitty-gritty on deterring unwanted cross-pollination. The workshop is held on a farm so you can see seed saving trials in progress and learn how to take observation notes.
The class costs $20. The only downside is the distance. The farm is at Tonasket, which is near Okanogan. If you are undeterred, you should call and sign up in advance: 509-486-1855.
If you know of a similar class in Snohomish County, I’d love to hear about it. If you are an expert on seed saving, I’d love to talk with you for a story.
