Man dies after he's pinned by crate at Everett plant

EVERETT -- A worker was crushed to death Friday night when a crate full of glass weighing about 1,000 pounds toppled onto him and pinned him against a chain-link fence.

The 35-year-old man was taken to Providence Regional Medical Center Everett where he died, Snohomish County Fire District 1 spokeswoman Leslie Hynes said.

The accident occurred at 6:25 p.m. at a manufacturing plant in the 11800 block of Beverly Park Road south of Everett.

The man, who is from the Everett area, and other workers were inside a building moving the heavy crate when it toppled over and pinned him, Hynes said.

Firefighters arrived at the plant about 4 1/2 minutes after receiving the call. At that time, three or four workers used pallet jacks to lift the crate off the man.

"They were able to use the equipment to help free him," Hynes said.
