Big game hunter "Crysis: Warhead"

Cool chaos: In the world of first-person shooters, there are mere games and there are adventures.

The Crysis series is the latter.

With top-notch graphics and game play, developers at Crytek Budapest have created a gem in "Crysis: Warhead."

This time around in the Tengu Islands off North Korea, you play SAS commando Michael "Psycho" Sykes -- Jason Statham's poor cousin -- as you are detailed to a mission on the far side of the islands when all Hades breaks loose.

Aliens who have been slumbering in a dormant spaceship under the island begin popping out like a riled bee's nest, and it is up to you to fight off the alien threat -- as well as the Korean Peoples Army -- with harsh language and a freshly modified arsenal.

Warhead has a lot going for it. Game play is fluid and the battles are frenetic, with just the right touch of bedlam and sci-fi horror.

The game's biggest problem is the brevity of the campaign. It's pretty short, at a little more than five hours of game -- in gamer terms, that's Gary Coleman short.

Crytek makes up for this deficiency in two ways: a lower price tag for a new release plus Crysis Wars, a multiplayer "frag fest" with all the nano-suit goodness you can imagine. Essentially, two for the price of one. All in all, I recommend "Crysis: Warhead" to any first-person shooter enthusiast who has a decent PC. This game is worth it.

For: the PC

Rated: "M" for Mature

Price: $29.99
