Will striking machinists greet Gregoire in Everett?

Tuesday morning at 9, Gov. Chris Gregoire is scheduled to speak at the Aerospace Summit at the Comcast Arena.

U.S. Sen. Patty Murray, state House Speaker Frank Chopp and Fred Kiga, a vice president of The Boeing Co., are also slated to talk at the event hosted by the Aerospace Futures Alliance.

I’m wondering if any Boeing machinist union members might show up. A few of them were pretty upset with the governor for attempting to prevent the month-old strike from occurring. In the days before the strike she urged leaders on both sides to spend an extra 48 hours talking. It didn't help.

I spoke with the governor about this Saturday night in Tulalip. She said she didn’t know whether to expect protesters or not.

She said she has been monitoring the progress - what little there is - of the strike.

She said she spoke with union and company leaders last week and was disappointed to learn they were not making any headway toward restarting negotiations.

She is not scheduled to meet with union or company officials Tuesday, she iterated.
