Double Team

Cross country rankings

Posted at 8:55 am by Mike Cane, Herald Writer

For the second consecutive week, the Jackson boys are No. 1 in the Washington State Cross Country Coaches Association Class 4A poll. Gig Harbor, ranked No. 4 last week, is now No. 2.

I watched the Jackson boys dominate a Wesco South meet Thursday at McCollum Park. The team’s top five runners placed first, second, third, fourth and seventh — very impressive, especially considering that Jackson head coach Eric Hruschka held out a few runners who were tired from going all-out at the Stanford Invite (Sept. 27).

Last week the Jackson boys cross country squad was the overwhelming winner in my reader poll: ”Which local fall sports team has the best chance to win a state title?” The Timberwolves received more than 60 percent of the votes.

Look in tomorrow’s Herald for a feature about top-ranked Jackson.
