Tulalip man burned when boat ignites

TULALIP -- A man was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with first- and second-degree burns to his arms and legs Monday when the boat he was working on caught fire.

Fuel vapors ignited when the man tried to start the engine about 10:45 a.m., said Gary Bontrager, a fire investigator with the Snohomish County Fire Marshal's Office.

The man was working on the boat, which was parked on a trailer in a driveway in the 8000 block of 19th Avenue NE, he said.

Crews rushed the man to Providence Regional Medical Center Everett and he was later taken to the Seattle trauma center, Marysville Fire District spokeswoman Kristen Thorstenson said.

The fire on the 19-foot Sea Ray was quickly brought under control, she said.

No one else was hurt.
