Round 3 in "Sprawl Brawl"

Developer Dave Barnett sent another mailer this week to Snohomish County Councilman Dave Somers and his neighbors.

This mailer asserts Somers is against affordable homes because he opposes fully-contained communities. Barnett would like to build one of the so-called mini-cities near Lake Roesiger and Somers is dead set against it.

On Oct. 22, the County Council is scheduled to discuss Somers’ request to impose a moratorium on accepting FCC applications which could put a crimp in Barnett’s short-term desires. Ultimately, Somers wants to rewrite the county planning rule book to bar mini-cities completely.

This is the third mailer developed and distributed by Barnett’s consultants at Strategies 360. In the first two, Somers is for global warming and sprawl because of his opposition to FCCs.

But it’s been almost a month since the last one came out. That gap is, as I noted in this column, because the two had a face-to-face meeting. Barnett hoped Somers would back off his plans for Oct. 22.
