Chase for the Heisman Trophy

Missouri quarterback Chase Daniel remains atop this week's Scripps Howard Heisman Trophy poll. But the senior who topped the poll for the third consecutive week also has a friend making his way up the poll, Tigers wide receiver Jeremy Maclin.

Maclin moved into the No. 4 spot completing an all Big 12 Conference sweep of the poll. Quarterback Sam Bradford of Oklahoma is second with Colt McCoy of Texas third.

The poll, compiled by The Rocky Mountain News, is in its 22nd year and is the longest-running weekly Heisman ranking in the nation. The final poll, taken in December, correctly has predicted the Heisman winner in 18 of the previous 21 seasons. Ten voters select five players each week. The tabulations are made on a 5-4-3-2-1 basis, with five points for a first-place vote, four points for second, etc. First-place votes are in parentheses.

This week's poll, with statistics from last week:

1. Chase Daniel, QB, Missouri, 45 points (7)
Last week: 18-for-23 passing, 253 yards, 3 TDs

2. Sam Bradford, QB, Oklahoma, 39 points (1)
Last week: 23-for-31 passing, 372 yards, 2 TDs

3 Colt McCoy, QB, Texas, 25 points (1)
Last week: 23-for-30 passing, 262 yards, 2 TDs

4. Jeremy Maclin, WR, Missouri, 8 points (1)
Last week: 5 receptions, 89 yards, 1 TD

Others receiving votes: Max Hall (QB, Brigham Young), 6; Graham Harrell (QB, Texas Tech), 6; Javon Ringer (RB, Michigan State), 6; Tim Tebow (QB, Florida), 6; Donald Brown (RB, Connecticut), 3; Mark Sanchez (QB, Southern California), 3; Dez Bryant (WR, Oklahoma State), 1; Michael Crabtree (WR, Texas Tech), 1; David Johnson (QB, Tulsa), 1.

Voters: Kirk Bohls, Austin (Texas) American-Statesman; Jimmy Burch, Fort Worth Star-Telegram; Dennis Dodd, CBS Sports.com; Vahe Gregorian, St. Louis Post-Dispatch; Mike Griffith, The Knoxville (Tenn.) News-Sentinel; Michael Lewis, Salt Lake Tribune; Bernie Lincicome, Rocky Mountain News; John Lindsay, Scripps Howard News Service; Tom Luicci, The (Newark) Star-Ledger; John Rohde, The Oklahoman.
