Halftime score: Ferndale 21, Everett 7

Posted at 6:46 pm by Mike Cane, Herald Writer

I stopped by Everett Memorial Stadium to catch the first half of the Ferndale vs. Everett football game. After falling behind 14-0, Everett played very well, especially on defense.

The Seagulls, trying to upset second-ranked Ferndale, scored a TD and appeared ready to go into the intermission down 14-7.

But on the final play of the second quarter Ferndale quarterback Casey Locker launched a long pass (about 40 yards or so) to the back of the end zone. One of his receivers jumped over an Everett defender and caught the ball. Amazingly, Ferndale went up 21-7.

The unlikely TD play was set up by a defensive pass interference penalty by Everett that gave Ferndale one final offensive play.

Everett was hanging with Ferndale pretty well up until that devastating sequence. Can the Seagulls recover from it?

Now I'm in the press box at Lake Stevens Stadium. We're about 15 minutes away from kickoff for the big Lake Stevens vs. Marysville-Pilchuck showdown.
