Prep tennis: Kamiak stages big comeback to beat Jackson, tie for 1st

MILL CREEK -- Kamiak head coach Victor Alinen gathered his team around to give the Knights a little motivation behind 0-3 to the Wesco South-leading Jackson Timberwolves.

"This is either going to be a long night or this is going to be a miracle," he told his players.

Well, suffice it to say, Alinen and his Knights believe in miracles.

Bryan Yang led the Kamiak charge with a win at No. 2 singles, providing a spark for the Knights to defeat Jackson 4-3 and tie for the lead in the Wesco South standings.

"It was a great match," Alinen said. "We are now in the drivers seat of the (Wesco) South."

It marked the second time this year that Kamiak beat Jackson (12-2 in league and overall).

The Knights followed Yang's victory with wins at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles. Which left the match up to freshman Andrew Lee at No. 4 singles, who lost the first set 5-7.

"Low and behold, he wins the second set pretty decisively," Alinen said. Then he won the third and the match was over.

Kamiak (12-2) lost its first two matches of the year before tearing through the Wesco South with a 12-meet winning streak.
