Freebies: Everclear’s “Jesus Was a Democrat”

Just in time for the election/collapse of the world economy, Everclear is giving away its song “Jesus Was a Democrat” for free.
The track deals in mall punk insights. Jesus was a revolutionary who loved sinners, frontman Art Alexis sings, so if he were alive today, he might pal around with porn stars and wear a Che Guevara T-shirt.
Because, you know, Jesus would live in Southern California and shop at Hot Topic. That’s such a Jesus thing to do.
Alexis is clearly lashing out at the far right for citing the Bible in support of political policies, and hey, who can’t sympathize with him? But it’s a bit odd that he vents his frustration by basically saying, “Nuh-uh, Jesus isn’t backing your party, he’s backing mine.”
Oh well.
The track is typical of the Portland group: a smattering of alt-punk power-guitar crunch with Alexis’ wild-eyed singing carrying the tune. Download by clicking here.
