Fire at Snohomish apartment quickly extinguished

SNOHOMISH -- Police are looking into a suspicious fire that apparently was set outside a Snohomish apartment building early Tuesday.

A resident spotted the fire around 5:30 a.m. on the exterior of the building at the corner of Sixth Street and Avenue A, Snohomish Police Chief John Tuner said.

When firefighters arrived, the fire had been doused by a resident using a garden hose, Snohomish Deputy Fire Chief Ron Simmons said.

No one was hurt, and the small blaze caused about $1,000 damage, Turner said.

"The fire is clearly, without question, suspicious," he said.

Snohomish police, Snohomish fire and the Snohomish County Fire Marshal's Office are investigating.
