Seahawks promote RB Forsett

One week after bringing back Justin Forsett, the Seattle Seahawks appear ready to let the rookie running back contribute.

Forsett was promoted from the practice squad Tuesday, and his most likely role is that of a return man. Primary punt returner Michael Bumpus was cut Tuesday to make room on the roster, while kickoff return man Josh Wilson is now the team's starting cornerback.

Forsett, who was drafted by the Seahawks and spent training camp with the team, returned punts and kickoffs during his three-week stint with the Indianapolis Colts.

He averaged 9.0 yards per punt return and 22.5 yards per kickoff return while playing in Indianapolis but was cut by the Colts last week. The Seahawks signed him to their practice squad a day later.

Bumpus, a rookie wide receiver from Washington State University, averaged 9.4 yards per punt return while holding that role with the Seahawks. He took over when Nate Burleson suffered a season-ending injury in the opener.

Bumpus is eligible to return to the Seahawks as a practice squad player unless he is signed to another team's active roster.
