Prep roundup: Marysville-Pilchuck caps unbeaten conference season

OAK HARBOR -- All three running backs for Marysville-Pilchuck ran for more than 100 yards in a 20-3 Wesco North victory over Oak Harbor Friday at Oak Harbor Memorial Stadium.

The Tomahawks, who clinched their first league title since 1975 last week, completed an undefeated regular season.

"It's nice for our seniors to finish the season 9-0," Marysville-Pilchuck head coach Brandon Carson said.

Marysville-Pilchuck has not allowed an offensive touchdown in four consecutive games and it was the defense that sealed the win Friday. With M-P ahead 7-3 midway through the fourth quarter, Oak Harbor had the Tomahawks on their heels and was looking at first-and-goal from the 9. Marysville-Pilchuck made the goal-line stand, stopping two attempts from the 1-yard line on third and fourth down.

"It shifted the momentum of the entire game," Carson said.

A few minutes later, Oak Harbor threatened again but middle linebacker Michael Stone intercepted a pass at Marysville-Pilchuck's 23-yard line.

Carson credited the Oak Harbor defense with holding M-P to its fewest points scored in a game this season. Glacier Peak also held the Tomahawks to that many in a 20-17 loss.

"Other than (a few long runs) Oak Harbor played a great defensive game," Carson said.

Caleb Posey got the scoring started, breaking away for a 67-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. Austin Denton led all rushers with 188 yards on 17 carries. Posey had 102 yards on nine carries and Ryan Sterley had 123 yards on 12 carries.
