Boeing confirms 787 jet won't fly until 2009 due to strike
Company identifies additional fastener problem
The Boeing Co. has found a new problem with its 787 Dreamliner, which won’t fly until 2009, company officials confirmed Tuesday.
The mostly composite jet had been about 15 months behind schedule when Boeing’s Machinists went on strike Sept. 6. The 57-day strike led to a further delay in the fuel efficient 787’s first flight, previously scheduled for later this year. Boeing workers also discovered that fasteners on the 787 had been installed incorrectly.
Boeing Machinists began returning to work after the strike late Sunday.
The company has not laid out a new first flight and delivery schedule for the 787.
