Parents of special-needs kids form advocacy group
The parents of children with special needs in the Mukilteo School District have formed a support group to share resources, ideas and concerns.
The group will meet from 6:30 to 8 tonight at 5105 200th St. SW, Suite 100, Lynnwood. They plan to discuss inclusion in recreational activities.
The event is sponsored by the ARC of Snohomish County. Parents, along with their friends and relatives, are invited to take part.

Snohomish Education Foundation auction set
The Snohomish Education Foundation's annual auction is set for 6 p.m. Saturday at the Everett Golf and Country Club, 1500 52nd St. SE.
The 22-year-old nonprofit organization provides resources to help Snohomish school children. Money raised by the foundation covers a variety of needs, such as shoes for needy kids and college scholarships for high school graduates.
Since 1996, the foundation has awarded $202,000 in classroom grants. Since 1992, scholarships totaling $690,000 have been granted to 738 students.
"There are more students in need than there are funds to help, so our goal is to increase the money raised at this year's auction," said Virginia Becker, the foundation's director.

Kamiak talk to explore drug and alcohol issues
Mukilteo School District residents are invited to attend a presentation about alcohol and drug use called "Parents, Teens and the Law" in the Kamiak High School commons from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday.
The featured speaker will be Tom Flick, a former NFL quarterback and Pac-10 conference Player of the Year, who is now a frequent speaker to corporations.
Flick will help the audience explore how setting and committing to personal goals can help teens gain control of their lives.
Snohomish School Board member steps down
Tom Pendergast has announced his resignation from the Snohomish School Board due to the demands of a new job.
The school board plans to discuss the next steps at a school board meeting at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. During the meeting, the board is scheduled to accept Pendergast's resignation and begin the process of finding a replacement for the director district No. 1 position.

Marysville Middle School hosts presentation
A presentation on the "nurtured heart" approach to transforming difficult children is scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m. Monday in the Marysville Middle School library, 4923 67th St. NE.
The program was developed by Howard Glasser. Sandra Klindtworth is scheduled to give the presentation.
Participants will learn about new ways to communicate, parent and educate children. Klindtworth will outline the basics of the nurtured heart approach, provide examples on how to use it and answer questions.
EvCC offers job fair Thursday for veterans
Everett Community College is hosting a job fair for military veterans from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at EvCC's Jackson Center, 2000 Tower St.
Employers from aerospace, government, security and other sectors will be seeking employees. Job seekers should bring a resume and come ready for an interview.
Free parking for the job fair is available in the parking lot at 10th Street and Broadway. Job fair parking is not allowed on EvCC's main campus.
The fair is co-sponsored by WorkSource Snohomish County and Everett Community College's Student Employment Referral Center.
