Family fun talk: Food drive

Drive away hunger at Comcast Community Ice Rink's "Curbside Food Drive" from 7:30 to 9 this morning in Everett.

Donate a nonperishable item at the 'drive benefiting Volunteers of America Food Bank in Everett and receive a free Comcast Community Ice Rink public skating voucher.

There is no need to even get out of your car, Global Spectrum staff from the Comcast Arena at Everett and the Comcast Community Ice Rink will be stationed on Broadway Avenue collecting items of nonperishable food for holiday food bank needs. Lincoln, the Everett Silvertips mascot, and other friends will hand out goodies and Whidbey Coffee will serve free coffee.

The Volunteers of America Everett Food Bank is experiencing a higher need than ever before. This month 14,800 people (4,843 households) in need have requested holiday food from the Everett Food Bank. Fifty percent of those are children and 20 percent are seniors in need.

The Comcast Community Ice Rink Food Drive continues through the end of December where skaters receive a $2 discount on public skate admission with a donation of a nonperishable item of food.
