Chicken pox outbreak keeps 300 Monroe students at home
Herald Staff
MONROE -- At least 300 elementary school students were ordered to stay home today following a chicken pox outbreak.
Health officials ordered the exclusion at Salem Woods Elementary School after several children came down with the illness.
Chicken pox is a highly contagious disease caused by a virus.
Students may return to school after they get vaccinated or if they provide written proof that they are already immune.
Exclusion is scheduled to last until Dec. 8, but it may change if more kids get sick, officials said.
