Although the team was eliminated in the first round of the state playoffs, the athletes, parents, coaches and the community can be proud. Coach John Ondriezek took the team to playoffs the past three years, said Kamaria Carnes and Katelyn Kelly, members of the public relations executive board. Shortly after the collapse of Lake Steven's football coach Kyle Bigham before the start of the season's first game at Goddard Stadium, Mariner paired with sandwich shop Jersey Mikes to raise money to contribute to the cost of his hospital stay and medical treatment. Mariner raised money by promoting sales at the store and receiving a percentage of the sales. The team in turn donated this money to Bigham. And at the season-ending banquet, the football team collected toys for the Starlight Starbright Foundation. Mountlake Terrace lights go green Mountlake Terrace's annual Tree-Lighting Ceremony is planned for 6:30 p.m. Friday at Evergreen Playfield, 22205 56th Ave. W. Visible for miles around, the tree is actually a frame constructed of more than 1,800 lights and placed on top of the city's water tower. The city is using new LED lights that use only 25 percent of the power that the old lights consumed. Presented by the Terrace-Brier Lions Club, the Tree-Lighting Ceremony will include cookies, hot coffee and cocoa. Santa is scheduled to arrive on a fire truck. And the Terrace Park School Choir and City Church will sing carols. Hunger Dinner will make a statement The Mixed and Multicultural Club at Edmonds Woodway High School offers a free Hunger Dinner on Thursday. The meal program aims to simulate the unequal distribution of wealth and food in the world, at 6 p.m. at 7600 212th St. SW in Edmonds. Participants will sit at different income level tables.
