The Tomahawks led 32-11 at halftime, dominating every facet of the game from the outside in. M-P's Morgan Martinis had three 3-pointers in the second quarter and the inside play of Britt Harris -- 12 points, six rebounds -- was running extremely smooth. M-P had only four turnovers in the first half. But then everything changed for the Tomahawks. "Squalicum out-hustled us in the second half and came out really strong, got four offensive boards right away," M-P head coach Julie Martin said. "It took the wind out of our sails." Squalicum began cutting into the lead with precision in the second half. Squalicum made every free throw attempt in the third quarter, going 10-for-10, and cut the lead to 43-30 after outscoring the Tomahawks 19-11 in the third period. M-P's Harris was forced to the bench after picking up her third foul early in the third quarter. "The third quarter we came out and it wasn't as good as the first half at all," Martin said. "I knew going into it that they (Squalicum) were a good team, and we knew that if we were up, to not let up, but it didn't roll over real well." Squalicum got to within two points in the third quarter, but was unable to get any closer. At Marysville-Pilchuck H.S. Burlington-Edison 57, Stanwood 52: At Burlington, experience was a big factor for Burlington-Edison in fending off a young Stanwood team, as Stanwood led at moments and trailed by one late in the game. Behind by 10 points on a couple of occasions, Stanwood fought back. At halftime, B-E led 34-30, then scored six straight to take a 10-point lead. Stanwood closed to within two, but couldn't take the lead. Stanwood's Jade Borseth scored 12 points in the second half and had seven steals in the first half. The Seagulls (5-1) were led by Brianna Kinman, who bowled a 209 game, a 223 game and finished with a 601 series, the highest series to date in the Wesco/Northwest League this year.
