Alarm alerts Marysville family to smoldering mattress

MARYSVILLE -- A smoke alarm early Wednesday alerted a family to a smoldering mattress in a bedroom.

Crews were called to a two-story home in the 11100 block of 47th Avenue NE about 3:30 a.m., Marysville Fire District spokeswoman Kristen Thorstenson said.

Awakened by the smoke alarm, family members got out of the house safely.

Firefighters found a smoldering electric blanket and mattress in one of the bedrooms, Thorstenson said.

The family was able to return to their home, she said. The damage was estimated at $2,000.
