Northwest Boychoir sings in Lynnwood and Seattle

The Northwest Boychoir has sung before presidents and governors, performed on movie soundtracks and entertained crowds from Westminster Abbey to SeaWorld in Florida.

But these talented youths who range in age from 6 to 18 might be best known for their annual holiday concert, "A Festival of Lessons & Carols," a 30-year tradition featuring eight performances. This year's concert will showcase the 80-member combined chorus of the Northwest Boychoir and Vocalpoint!

Patterned after the Christmas Eve observance at King's College in Cambridge, England, "A Festival of Lessons & Carols" is a performance where song and scripture are blended: The boys recite nine holiday readings, each followed by a traditional carol sung by the choir. A congregational carol is then sung by the audience and the choir.

The last of this season's Boychoir concerts are this weekend beginning at 7 p.m. Sunday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 6215 196th St., SW, Lynnwood. Tickets are $22, $17 and $12 and available through Northwest Choirs at 206-524-3234 or online at www.nwchoirs.org.

Their final season concert will be at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Benaroya Hall, 200 University St., Seattle. Tickets are $20 to $63 and sold exclusively through Seattle Symphony, 206-215-4747, www.seattlesymphony.org.

The Northwest Boychoir can be heard on the soundtrack of the 1992 film "Christopher Columbus: The Discovery," with Marlon Brando. They also sang on the soundtrack of the 2004 release "Millions."

The boys have toured nationally and internationally and served as the Official Singing Ambassadors of Washington under five governors, including Chris Gregoire.
