The home front: Bigslider moves big stuff
What: When Texas housewife Jeri Masterston realized she needed to help her stepson move, she told her husband she needed a device that would help her move big objects with ease. The couple contacted a plastics manufacturer to design the Bigslider. Now, their device has been named one of the best new tools found by Popular Mechanics at the 2008 National Hardware Show.
Advantages:Made from high-density polyethelene, the Bigslider is both sturdy enough to deal with substantial weight and slick enough to slide across most surfaces. While it has no ridges on its sides, it comes with a cord that can be wrapped around a load to secure objects while you go up stairs. And unlike a towel or a piece of old carpet, the Bigslider's rigid plastic design means it won't bunch up if you try to slide it under an object.
Limitations:Stress tests done by the company revealed that the handle can take 402 pounds of pull, meaning in theory it won't break until the Bigslider is loaded with more than 800 pounds.
Where:
Call 713-459-0660 or go to www.bigslider.com
Cost: $54.95 for the Basic Bigslider
