In case you missed the brief article in today’s Herald, former Mountlake Terrace boys basketball coach Merle Blevins died Thursday.
Blevins coached the Hawks for 16 seasons. He guided the program to more than 150 victories, seven playoff appearances, four Western Conference titles, three Northwest District titles, and three state-tournament appearances, current Mountlake Terrace coach Nalin Sood said.
In 1977 Blevins led Terrace to a state championship. He was the first head coach in program history and one of just three to ever have the job.
In February 2007 Herald Writer Rich Myhre wrote an article about Terrace’s special 1976-77 team, coached by Blevins. It’s called "Remembering a legendary team".
