Monroe squelches rumor about safety of city water

MONROE -- The City of Monroe took steps today to squelch a rumor that its drinking water isn't safe for use without first being boiled.

Concern was raised by recent news reports about a water main that broke during recent flooding. Just three customers were advised to boil their water, according to a city press release.

The limited advisory was issued as a precaution pending bacteriological tests on the repaired system. The results, available on Saturday afternoon, "confirmed that the water is safe to drink," according to Monroe officials.
