Follow your nose

A few things we've sniffed out today:
Guinea pigs. Scientists paid 153 people to have a cold virus squirted up their noses and then spend several days in a hotel waiting to get sick. By the end of the study, 54 people got colds, and the rest came down with either cabin fever or an addiction to "Days of Our Lives."
A deal. Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels says an agreement has been reached to replace the Alaskan Way Viaduct with a tunnel, which would cost more than $4 billion. We also hear something -- the sound of the Legislature chortling at any suggestion that the state might have to chip in extra money.
A Web site where a map tracks scents detected by contributors' sensitive noses. Among the smells on the map are verbena soap and "used socks in the summer," one of which makes us glad no one has figured out how to make the Internet produce aromas. Unfortunately for English speakers, the site is in Japanese. But we want in on the fun, so we've started a map of our own (below).
However, your humble Buzz correspondents can only inhale so much besides the intoxicating aroma of our coffee, so we want to know what you've smelled recently (besides the paper mill -- we all know where that is).
