Catholic eighth-graders finish service projects

Eighth-graders at Immaculate Conception-Our Lady of Perpetual Help School recently helped gather food for a food bank for one of their service projects. They collected 861 items.

The eighth-graders also participated in Operation Christmas Wish and led a schoolwide effort to donate to Operation Homefront, which helps support troops and their families. Money from Thursday Masses was donated to the charity.

High-schoolers donate 9,220 pounds of food

Students in the leadership team at Henry M. Jackson High School recently helped provide 9,220 pounds of food for The Salvation Army Food Bank in Everett.

Students collected the food during their annual food drive.

Roughly 20 students helped deliver boxes of canned fruits and vegetables, pasta and other food staples despite snowy weather and school closures.

Kalani Packaging and owner Lono Dickson helped deliver the food. The school's activities director, Judi Montgomery, and other staff also helped with deliveries.

The school has held the food drive for five years and it is a critical component for keeping the food bank stocked through the winter months, said Jerry Gadek, business administrator for The Salvation Army of Everett and Snohomish County.
