North County update ArlingtonSenior center brings back Sunday chicken dinner While the Stillaguamish Senior Center's main hall was closed for repairs in the fall, the center's popular monthly Old Fashioned Chicken Dinner was suspended. The dinner is back with chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, vegetables, salad, dessert, and a beverage served from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the center, 18308 Smokey Point Blvd. Open to the public, the dinner does not require reservations. Entertainment during the meal is planned. Volunteers are needed for the dinner and a number of other programs at the center, including the public bingo games at 7 p.m. on Fridays and 11 a.m. on Tuesdays. More info: 360-653-4551. Camano Island Learn to keep your local water clean Doug Myers of Puget Sound Nearshore Partnership plans to talk about people's impact on the water cycle at a presentation set for 7 p.m. today at the Camano Multipurpose Center, 141 E. Camano Drive, Camano Island. Myers is set to offer ways to reduce stormwater runoff, minimize pollution and protect groundwater. The presentation is part of Camano Wildlife Habitat Project education series sponsored by the Friends of Camano Island Parks. More info: 360-387-2236. Darrington Highway 530 lane closure near Rockport One lane of Highway 530 south of Rockport is set to be closed this week for flood repairs. State Department of Transportation crews plan to replace part of a culvert, a stretch of guardrail and the shoulder of the highways. Work is scheduled for daylight hours and is expected to be finished by Saturday. Marysville Grace Academy students to help flood victims Enrique Kramer, Tim O'Kelly and Dakota Schoolcraft, juniors at Grace Academy High School in Marysville, plan to gather donations of nonperishable food, cash and lightly used clothing in a drive they call Floating Hearts for Flood Victims. Students plan to pass out information about the donation drive on Saturday and Sunday throughout Marysville and then collect donations on Jan. 31. Donations also can be made on Jan. 31 at Albertsons, 301 Marysville Mall, and Starbucks in the Haggen plaza on 88th Street NE. Cash and checks will be donated to the Snohomish County Chapter of the American Red Cross, food will go to the Marysville Community Food Bank and clothing to Seeds of Grace, Enrique said. Park-and-ride meeting Community Transit's Citizens Advisory Committee is scheduled to hear a staff report tonight about the agency's plans to build a park-and-ride lot at the corner of Cedar Avenue and Grove Street. The public meeting is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the Tulalip Boys & Girls Club, 707 36th Ave. NW. Community Transit plans to break ground on the $4.1 million project in June and to finish construction late this year. Plans call for about 210 parking stalls for autos and 10 for motorcycles. The lot will supplement other park-and-ride lots already in operation in the Marysville area. Tonight's meeting location is accessible by Community Transit Route 222. More info: www.communitytransit.org. Stanwood Relay for Life events set The organizers of the Stanwood-Camano Relay for Life to benefit the American Cancer Society has its kickoff today. The official fundraising effort begins at a party set for 5 to 8 p.m. at the Starbucks coffee shop next to the QFC store parking lot in the Stanwood Town Center. Free coffee and prizes are planned. Volunteers will be on hand to register teams. An early registration fee of $50 a team is offered until Feb. 1.
