Lynnwood barista accused of faking a robbery

A Lynnwood barista is being accused of faking an armed robbery to cover for her sticky fingers.
The woman, 25, called police in July to report being robbed while working at an espresso stand on Highway 99. She said a man with an 8-inch knife took about $500, according to court documents. Police brought in a dog to pick up a trail but were unable to find anyone.
Prosecutors say there never was a robbery and the woman made up the story because she was skimming from the cash register. The coffee stand owner reported about $1,600 missing.
The espresso stand manager told detectives the woman never reported the robbery to her and showed up the next day as if nothing had happened, prosecutors wrote. An employee at a nearby business told police he didn't see a robbery even though he has a good view of the stand.
Detectives spoke with the defendant who allegedly admitted to taking the money, putting the cash in her car and then filing the false police report, court papers said.
