Bedard pushes back bullpen outing

Posted at 1:46 pm by By Kirby Arnold

The Mariners had hoped to see Erik Bedard throw in the bullpen today if the pain in his right rump had improved. He didn't, so apparently it hadn't.

Manager Don Wakamatsu remained fairly unconcerned -- at least to the media -- when he spoke about Bedard this morning. He said Bedard was to gauge how he felt during the pre-workout stretch, then decide whether to throw. If he didn't throw today, he would on Friday.

Time to be concerned? Not really, especially considering the Mariners had thought Wedensday that Bedard wouldn't get back on the mound until Saturday.

Team physician Dr. Mitch Storey says Bedard's injury is minor, but the Mariners are being ultra cautious.

"We don’t want it to become an issue and have it linger and make it worse," Storey said. "There is the potential of it getting worse. He came to us with it. It was minor at the time and is still minor. We don’t expect this to be a long drawn-out affair."
